Introduction to the cruise

Saloon with bar, the meeting place on board!

When you arrive the first time ever on the „J.R. Tolkien“ you have got the feeling that you are coming home. Our guests awaits a spacious and comfortable saloon. There you have enough space for festive receptions, dinners, amazing parties or simply to relax with a cup of coffee.
The ambience seduces the visitor with warm, harmonious colours complimented with wood panelled interior. The saloon integrates a stylish bar even with a piano.

Buffets, champagne receptions and parties

The saloon and bar are not only used for cosy gatherings but also for convival receptions. The sumptuous buffet will be created magically by professional chefs in the well equipped galley. This includes sparkling wine and a variety of different coffees. Our list of beverages includes not only coffees but also juices and spirits, sufficient stocks are guaranteed. Sailing has nothing to do with a diet and after a long day at sea the belly demands its provision! In the evening the saloon serves as a place for fun gatherings and our guests can party after a day full of diversity and activities. And when it’s time for bed, comfortable cabins are beckoning – they are not large but cosy and including a WC and shower.

Our sport offer

You can play and enjoy a variety of water activities. Our rubber boats are equipped with a strong engine and you can chase along the waves. You can kitesurf and body surf or we can pull you along behind the Tolkien. In order that you don’t get cold we provide you with a neoprene suit to keep you warm.

The „ J.R. Tolkien“ tells her own story

In the past I had been a tug. With big ropes I hauled vessels and other floatable objects through the ports. I was born on the VEB shipyard ‘Edgar Andre‘ in Magdeburg. At that time (1964) I even looked different and I had another name (“Dierkow“) and had a different boss, the ‘Lotsen- Bugsier- und Bergungsreederei’ (BBB), Rostock. I enjoyed to work for them but after a long time of 30 years I was not able to work as before. Therefore I had to go to a cure  at Jaap van der Rest. Not only that he bought me 1994 but also he rebuilt me completly. And now I am a fancy bride. Jaap and I make friends very fast and whenever I see my mirror picture in the water I appreciate what he has done for me. Just once more I met my former captain. I think that was in spring 2011 when I was nearby Bremerhaven. There I did get a radio-call from him. He did make a career as well, now he was a captain of a cargo ship. It was a heat-warming meeting. We did exchange photographs and remembered good old times. By the way, he thinks that I am looking good, too.
