Introduction to the cruise

Active at the Tadoussac–Baie-Sainte-Catherine crossing, the MV Jos-Deschênes II recalls the name of the first captain to ensure this crossing on a daily basis. From 1925 to 1938, Jos Deschênes braved the elements, summer and winter, to transport mail, goods and a few passengers aboard the Bixie B., a motorized rowboat. Recruited in 1938 by the Charlevoix-Saguenay Navigation Company, newly created to provide a ferry service better suited to the needs of the region, he retired in 1959, after more than 30 years of loyal service. Born and died in Tadoussac (1889-1975), he was also a municipal councilor from 1939 to 1951.
