Introduction to the cruise

Active across Île-Verte, MV Peter-Fraser pays homage to the island’s first inhabitant, who settled there in the late 18th century as superintendent of navigation. Scottish-born Peter Fraser had the safety of sailors at heart: he kept a fire constantly lit on the north side of the island and rescued nearly 40 ships in distress during his working life. Built in 1806, the Île Verte lighthouse, the oldest on the St. Lawrence, rises in the same place where it kept its fire burning. His descendants are still very present on the island and in the region.
