After agreement with the traffic manager Västtrafik, Styrsöbolaget ordered two catamaran-type speedboats that were built in carbon fiber-reinforced sandwich construction at the Brödrene Aa shipyard in Hyen, Norway, for delivery in 2010. The background was the need to speed up the trips on the long line from Saltholmen to Donsö and Vrångö.Rivö, which was the second speedboat, was delivered on September 3 and was put into regular service on September 27, 2010. The name Rivö comes from the lighthouse that is located in the northernmost part of the southern archipelago opposite Asperö.Rivö is 27.09 m long and 8.39 m wide. The passenger capacity is 163 people, which is equal to the number of seats in the saloon. Two 6-cylinder Yanmar diesel engines with a combined 2,026 hp (1,498 kW) each drive their own adjustable Servogear propeller. The engines were replaced with new ones in the fall of 2022 and are environmentally classified according to TIer 3. The speed is 28.5 knots with full load.
