Introduction to the cruise

The car ferry Ärlan was delivered in 1990 from Oskarshamn's Varv and was intended for the increased transport to the southern archipelago where the car ferry Vira was no longer sufficient.Styrsöbolaget had then driven cars with Vira since 1979. For food, there are cold rooms and cargo rooms on deck.General cargo is handled using the ferry's forklift.Ärlan is built as a double-ended shuttle ferry with ramps and propellers at both ends. The hull is built in steel and ice-classed.The ferry is 36.18 m long and 9.18 m wide.Since autumn 2013, the ferry has been powered by two Volvo Penta D13 MH with a combined 1,000 hp (736 kW).The engines have SCR exhaust gas treatment. Each engine drives an Aquamaster propeller that can be rotated 360 degrees. The speed is 10 knots. To be an extra resource during icy winters, the ferry is rated for 98 passengers and has a saloon below deck with 60 seats.
